I am looking forward to the E4 Expository Preaching Conference at First Baptist Church, September 21-22. Dr. Jim Shaddix will be the keynote speaker and there will be many excellent break-out sessions. I will be speaking for one of the sessions on “Preaching and the Sufficiency of Scripture.” I pray that this conference will serve to inspire and instruct many in the utterly essential task of expositional preaching. Let us pray for an army of expositional preachers to preach the word in season and out of season!
End of the Law Interview
In Uncategorized on September 15, 2009 at 7:43 amMy friend, Justin Taylor, recently posted an interview concerning my book, The End of the Law. Justin’s blog, Between Two Worlds, is fantastic and I was very honored to have the opportunity to share my thoughts on the book. He asked three questions: (1) my methodology, (2) how is the old covenant “old,” (3) and how is the new covenant “new?” You can see my answers here.
How Hot is it in Louisiana?
In squirrels on August 13, 2009 at 10:19 amSometimes people ask me how hot it is in Louisiana. I remember my Grandpa joking with me about the Great Depression. He said it was so hot that he looked out the window and saw a dog chasing a rabbit – and they were both walking! I never really figured out if he was pulling my leg like I always thought he was. However, my answer to “how hot is it in Louisiana?” does not involve questionable anecdotes, because I have a physical picture to go with the mental picture that I want to paint for you. Imagine somewhere so hot that a squirrel has to sprawl out in the shade on his stomach in order to stay cool. Now let me show you what I am talking about:

No, the squirrel is not dead. Our division secretary, Allison Weaver, took this picture of the swing next to the student center at Louisiana College where I work. The squirrel moved a little bit when approached, but only to shift his body around in a semi-circle! I probably should have given the squirrel a snow cone to relieve his suffering.
