Sometimes people ask me how hot it is in Louisiana. I remember my Grandpa joking with me about the Great Depression. He said it was so hot that he looked out the window and saw a dog chasing a rabbit – and they were both walking! I never really figured out if he was pulling my leg like I always thought he was. However, my answer to “how hot is it in Louisiana?” does not involve questionable anecdotes, because I have a physical picture to go with the mental picture that I want to paint for you. Imagine somewhere so hot that a squirrel has to sprawl out in the shade on his stomach in order to stay cool. Now let me show you what I am talking about:

No, the squirrel is not dead. Our division secretary, Allison Weaver, took this picture of the swing next to the student center at Louisiana College where I work. The squirrel moved a little bit when approached, but only to shift his body around in a semi-circle! I probably should have given the squirrel a snow cone to relieve his suffering.
So true! I feel like that most days of summer in Louisiana!
I agree! The girls and I have grown to love snow cones!
Yes, what a lovely way to bear La summers!
Isn’t is obvious? He was taking a break from his plot to take over the world…

John,
I had a good laugh over that comment – very perceptive!
